BALLS
Starting Fall 2012, the Club
provides balls. Do I need to bring balls?
How many cans? Each week we have as many ball bringers as courts, so just bring one can.
You can tell who is scheduled to bring balls by looking for "B" on the schedule. Ball-bringers may
need to send their brought balls to other than the court that they are playing on so that each court gets one NEW can
of balls.
What kind of balls?
We play indoors.
And, when you bring balls, you should bring balls designed for indoor courts. You see, outdoor courts are much rougher.
So, ball manufacturers make the outdoor balls fuzzier since the fuzz wears off quickly. Indoors, those balls just get
fuzzy and slow. Balls designed for indoor play are less fuzzy, and so they stay livelier. Please
use the following guide when picking out tennis balls for indoor courts, at least for our league:

Clay Is it OK to let my balls get cold? I’ll assume you’re asking still
about tennis balls. If so, no! Cold air makes balls dead. They recover
somewhat as they warm, but not completely. If it’s cool or cold out, don’t leave your balls
in the car.
OTHER How Do I Know Where To
Go? You do NOT have to bring the schedule with you each week. Every week, look for your name on the downstairs
court entry door to find out where you are scheduled to start play that night. Also, I'll see that one form is at each
court that lists who is scheduled to play on that court. You probably should be able to tell where
you will be scheduled to play based on how you finished the last time you played. Usually, I have to do some "bumping"
to correct occasions where more or fewer than exactly 4 individuals are scheduled for a particular court. I keep track
of up-bumps and down-bumps so that no one is treated unfairly in the long run. What If I Can't Be There On Time ... Or At
All? NEVER just don't show up. Get a sub. In an emergency, where you can't get a sub, call me … or, as a last resort, try sending an eMail to ALL subs and players
at MNTennis@GoogleGroups.com. If it's too late to call somebody, call the club. If you're coming but running
late, call the club. (314-878-2722). Whenever you call the
club, tell them to let me or someone in our group know. If you are the "told" group member, please pass on
the word to players on the affected court. So, if I call the club to say I'm coming but running 5 minutes late, and
the club tells you, find out what court I'm on and tell the folks there. Thanks. How Do I Know Who To Call To Sub for Me?
To assist those looking for a sub,
I've listed next to each regular player and sub their typical court level based on the results over the last few months or,
if necessary, just an educated guess. I hope all find this guide helpful and no one takes offense. If anyone wishes
to appeal their listing, please call 1-800-wahwahwah. Also realize that the court levels shown are not absolutes, just
typical of where the player's level seems to land them most of the time. |
